The Bullmastiff is a cross between the English Mastiff and English Bulldog. The were developed in England in the latter part of the 19th century to stop poaching on the estates of gamekeepers. They wanted a dog with the courage of a bulldog and the power, speed and sense of smell of the Mastiff. They were taught to down and subdue poachers without injuring them.
